Drop the Party.
Not a suggestion. A starting point.
Somewhere along the way, Americans were sorted into two boxes and told to stay put. Pick a color. Pick a side. Defend it no matter what. And if the people you elected break their promises, violate the Constitution, or flat-out lie to your face — well, at least they're not the other side.
We're done with that.
Actually Govern exists for the Americans who refuse to let party loyalty replace critical thinking. For the ones who believe you can support a policy without worshipping a politician. For the ones who watch their government lie, deflect, and dodge accountability — from both sides — and feel something between heartbreak and rage.
That's 45% of the country right now. A record high. And nobody is speaking to them.
We are.
We believe the Constitution isn't a suggestion. We believe "for the people, by the people" is a job description, not a slogan. We believe elected officials work for us — not the other way around — and that when they forget, it's our duty to remind them.
We believe accountability isn't partisan. That transparency isn't optional. That demanding basic competence from your government doesn't make you radical — it makes you a citizen.
We believe satire is one of the most powerful tools a democracy has. That laughing at absurdity is a form of resistance. That a well-placed joke can cut through the noise faster than a thousand talking points.
And we believe that if you're going to talk about change, you'd better show up for it.
The most powerful thing you can do right now isn't donate to a campaign or share a post. It's refuse to be sorted.
The Drop the Party pledge is a public commitment to vote for people over parties — to think independently, verify before you share, and hold every elected official accountable regardless of the letter next to their name. No membership. No ideology. No team.
More Americans identify as independent than as Democrat or Republican. That's not apathy. That's 45% of the country looking at the two-party system and saying: you don't speak for me. The movement is already here. We're just giving it a name.
Throughout history, satire has been the citizen's sharpest weapon — from Benjamin Franklin's political cartoons to Mark Twain's blistering commentary to the protest signs that make you laugh and think at the same time. Satire works because it tells the truth sideways. It disarms people long enough for the point to land. That spirit lives in everything we build here — the content, the voice, the mission.

What we have is a stubborn commitment to critical thinking, a refusal to accept anything at face value, and the willingness to spend hours researching a topic until we understand it well enough to explain it clearly.
The Briefing is our independent civic journalism — non-partisan analysis of how our government actually works, how it was designed to work, and where those two things stopped being the same. Every article is researched from primary sources, cited to verifiable data, and written without party lines or talking points. We fact-check ourselves before we publish, and when we get something wrong, we correct it.
We write about the things your civics class skipped and cable news won't touch — not because we have all the answers, but because we believe the questions matter. And we believe you're smart enough to read the facts and draw your own conclusions.
An informed citizenry is the only thing that has ever made democracy work. The Briefing is our contribution to keeping it informed.
Read The Briefing →Right now, Actually Govern is self-funded. We pay for the server, the tools, and the time out of our own pockets — because we believe in what we're building, and we're spending our own money to prove it. As Eva Marie's dad used to say: "Action talks. BS walks."
Our focus right now is entirely on building a swell of citizens who will stand up, join this movement, and remind everyone who is actually in charge of this country. The people are. Sanity needs to be restored — and that starts with showing up.
If this movement grows the way we hope and pray it will, more may come. Time will tell. What we can say with certainty is this: when that time comes, transparency won't be optional. We're asking the government to be accountable. We'd be hypocrites if we weren't willing to hold ourselves to the same standard.
For now, the most valuable thing you can give is your voice. Show up. Think independently. Refuse to be sorted.
They count on us to forget. To move on. To get buried under the next news cycle, the next outrage, the next distraction.
Because the division isn't a side effect of the system — it is the system.
We're the customers, outrage is the product, and as long as we stay angry at each other, nobody looks up at the people actually in charge.
We've watched officials lie when the evidence was right in front of us. We've watched constitutional violations become routine and accountability become optional. We've watched transparency disappear behind walls of redactions and "no comments" — from every administration, every party, every level of government.
We're not forgetting. We're not moving on.
We're documenting. We're demanding. We're showing up.

That's our motto. It's Latin — not because we're fancy, but because the message transcends any one election, any one party, any one moment. It's the only thing we're asking of every person who holds public office in this country:
